She was born in Varazdin Croatia, where she attended elementary and secondary school, in the class of Davorin Premec. She attended master classes with D. Sremec, G. Mercep, M. Drvenšeka, E. Rousseau, C. Delangle and E. Devalon. Petra begins her studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz in the class of Peter Straub and continued in Vienna, at the University of Music and Performing Arts under Professor Ota Vrhovnik. In 2008 she acquired the title of Master artium, and an MA with honors. Since 2006, she enrolled in the Master of saxophone at Konsevatorium Wien - Privatuniversität in class of an eminent saxophonist Lars Mlekusch. During the study additionally attended masterclasses with renowned professors: J. M. Londeix, J. I. Formeau and A. Bornkamp. In 2007 Petra Horvat won first prize at the Competition der Jungen Österreihischen Blasinstrumentalisten - Yamaha, and 2008 scholarship at the competition Fidelio in Vienna. She was also a scholar of the Varazdin County. She has performed as a soloist and in numerous chamber ensembles. In Graz, she played with the saxophone quartet Quadrofon, in Vienna with AlBaTESo Saxophne Quartet, also on tour in China. Then comes a collaboration with Tzigane Saxophone Quartet and the Vienna Saxophone Quartet. Besides that, she participated in various orchestras: Wiener Jounesse Orchestra, with the Orchestra of the Slovenian Armed Forces, the Slovenian Philharmonic, Operon house in Ljubljana and NuSynergetic Orchestra. In 2008 and 2009 Petra Horvat is working with a young and acclaimed pianist Khatija Buniatishvilli and violist Nora Romanoff Schwarzberg. With them at the Progetto Martha Argerich Festival Lockenhaus she performed rare original music for saxophone and string instrument Trio op. 47 by P. Hindemith. For solo and chamber performances she premiered many works of living composers, such as Mali diptih i Prolaznosti by D. Bobič, Trio for two clarinets and soprano saxophone by Iranian composer A. Safari, Combustion trio for viola, tenor saxophone and piano by Colombian composer R. Tovar, saxophone quartet Sonosfera by Polish composer Ana Mary Huszc, as well as Saxbrass Suite for brass quintet and alto saxophone, Five Thaughts and Spare Time for alto saxophone and piano by Croatian composer I. J. Skender, a trio for soprano, clarinet and alto saxophone by Croatian composer L. M. Čuperjan. Her repertoire includes numerous compositions of improvisational character for various ensembles by G. Ziehberger. Since 2009 she has been teaching saxophone in Music school Ljubljana Vič - Rudnik Slovenia, and since 2012 also in Music school in Varazdin Croatia. She is an active member of the S.O.S. saxophone orchestra, chamber group Trio Lyrique and Saxophone Quartet LadieSaxophone. Petra Horvat is artistic director and founder of the festival Sax and the sea (from 2011), as well as the Podium festival in Brioni (from 2015), in order to promote classical saxophone in Croatia.
